Lovefeast and Communion

Each congregation typically holds a lovefeast, which includes the communion, at least once a year. Close communion is our practice. In addition, it is common for members to travel to several other congregations within the fellowship throughout the year to commune with them as well.

This service begins with a time of self-examination, where each member is encouraged to reflect on their faith and personal walk with the Lord Jesus. This is followed by feet washing as commanded by Jesus, and teaching is given on service, humility, cleansing, and other truths which are embodied in this simple command. We then enjoy the Lord’s Supper, a simple meal around the table, looking forward with anticipation to that ultimate feast at the end of the age. The service is then concluded by the bread and wine, commemorating the death and suffering of Jesus on the cross for the sins of the world.

Our communion service is usually held in the evening and can take four to five hours to complete. We find this service to be a highlight in our Christian experience as we draw closer to our brothers and sisters, and an opportunity for spiritual revival in our individual walk with Jesus Christ.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Luke 22:19
