Annointing

|
A small clear bottle, filled with anointing oil, sits on a Bible that is open to James chapter 5, verse 14.

The book of James teaches that when a believer is sick, he should “call for the elders of the church; and let them pray for him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.” Many times this occurs in our homes, but also happens in hospitals or wherever the individual requesting the anointing with oil may be. The anointing service is more than just a request for physical healing. It is also a time of self-examination, of personal recommitment, and of resigning our own will in this circumstance to the will of the Lord.

Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. James 5:14

A minister pours anointing oil onto another minister's open hands. A third man waits for the oil to be applied on his head.
Two ministers lay their hands on a third man's head. An open Bible and a bottle of anointing oil is visible in the background.
