Doubters and skeptics sometimes ask why God doesn’t make Himself more obvious, declaring that, if God were real, He would surely reveal Himself so clearly to us that we could have no doubt. Conversely, the Bible claims that God’s existence and attributes are so obvious to His creation that we have no excuse to not believe in Him. Romans 1:20 says, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse…” Our Creator has provided more than enough evidence for His existence to convince anyone willing to believe, yet God allows skeptics opportunity to doubt. God has deliberately left some ambiguity, so as not to force those who are not willing to love and serve Him. In this way, God gives us the opportunity either to love Him or to reject Him without violating our freedom.

So, what are some of the evidences that should make God obvious to us? Evidences for the existence of God are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, with many pieces to consider. No single piece of evidence gives the whole picture, but when we assemble them, they give us an unmistakable image of God. A few of the larger pieces of evidence include Causation, Design, Organized Information, Morality, and the Laws of Logic and Physics. Causation argues that whatever begins to exist has a cause behind it, and our complex universe began to exist, so it must have a cause. Hebrews 3:4 says, “For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.” If you look at a building such as a house, you know a builder exists, not just believe so. Consider whether you, like Goldilocks, might find a house in the woods with steaming porridge on the table that might have just happened by chance or have always been there. We know that is impossible. Even so, if you look at creation, you know a powerful and intelligent Creator exists, not just believe so. Design is similar to causation, in that, if you look at a complex design, you know a Designer exists, not just believe so. We know there must be a designer when we find a watch or clay pot or any complex object. Design comes from intelligence, not from randomness. Organized Information also must come from intelligence, and cannot create itself or come from random chance. A complex and specified information code system (such as DNA) is always the result of a mental process. A human cell contains 1012 bits of information, comparable to about 100 million pages of the Encyclopedia Britannica, which surely must have come from a wise Creator. Morality refers to mankind’s inborn knowledge of right and wrong. Everyone has a conscience and an inborn knowledge that we are accountable to God. We also have a desire to worship, which is sometimes described as a God-shaped vacuum in our soul. Brain scientists say our brains are hard-wired for worship. Atheism cannot account for the existence of the universal Laws of Logic and Physics. Rational thinking cannot stem from random chemical processes, and neither can the laws of physics that govern the universe create themselves from nothing.
Much evidence clearly reveals the existence and the attributes of an intelligent, powerful, and holy Creator who knows everything and has authority to tell us how to live. We may want God to remove all need for us to have faith, but it doesn’t work like that. If the skeptic remains skeptical after their most significant questions and objections to God are answered, then their resistance to believing in Him is likely emotional or volitional, not merely intellectual. Psalm 53:1a says, “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…”
